The traditional semi-annual meeting of the European Federation of Building Societies took place on the 20 April 2005.
The evening before, on the 19 April 2005, the participants were already welcomed on behalf of the Bavarian Minister for European affairs und regional relations, Mr. Eberhard Sinner (MdL) and the President of the EFBS, Dr. Thomas Wieser, at the Bavarian Representation to the EU. Dr. Joachim Würmeling, Member of the European Parliament gave an extensive survey of the Consumer Credit Directive and the current state of play on the European level.
The meeting of the Legal Affairs Committee at the RENAISSANCE Hotel included the reports of several representatives of the European Commission (GD Internal Market and Consumer Protection), who imparted the Commission’s positions on the Consumer Credit Directive and the integration of the EU mortgage credit markets.
The agenda of the Housing Policy and Marketing Committee, that took place at Bavarian Representation to the EU, contained the following topics: real estate procurement and housing financing, the project SIMSign and die UN study on Housing Finance for Countries in Transition.
For both technical committees the council of management appointed new chairmen. We would like to express our thanks again to Dr. Karl Osladil and Dr. Ralf Conradi for the immense engagement all over the last years.

Legal Affairs Committee: Mr. Rainer Schäfer (LBS Bausparkasse West, Germany)
Housing Policy and Marketing Committee: Mr. Mag. Ernst Karner (s-Bausparkasse, Austria)
During the meeting of the Council of Management a representative of the Permanent Representation of Germany to the EU reported on the actual developments of the financial services sector and different positions of the member states.
