On 2nd and 3rd April 2009 the Members of the Federation came together in Brussels for the semi-annual meeting of the EFBS.
Work got underway with the meeting of the Legal Committee, which took place in the Bavarian Representation to the EU. Special guest speakers Ms Knoblochová (Czech Permanent Representation to the EU, Consumer Division) and Mr Ducoulombier (European Commission, DG Internal Market and Services) were welcomed, who gave the EFBS Members their assessments of recent developments in the financial-services area, particularly follow-up measures arising from the White Paper on the integration of EU mortgage-credit markets and the EU Commission’ s proposal for a directive on consumer contractual rights (consumer acquis).
At the meeting of the Committee for Housing Policy and Marketing, Mr Bettin (German Permanent Representation to the EU, Financial Services Division) summarised the decisions of the G20 Summit, which was held in London on 2nd April 2009 and of which the principal theme was global financial stability, as well as present European intentions regarding the crisis of the financial markets. In the subsequent discussion, current developments in the building-society savings system, their impact and the prospects for building societies were covered in detail.
